Christina Bush’s photography has been featured by National Geographic, Animal Planet, ABC’s Extreme Home Makeovers, The International Anti-Fur Coalition, The Paw Project and many other organizations around the globe. A lifetime supporter of animal protection and education, she works with groups all over the world using her imagery to help save and improve the lives of animals everywhere, both in the wild and in captivity. She has a Wildlife Awareness column featuring her writings and photos in Expressions of India magazine by iCare. This is a very rewarding way for her to turn tremendous value into her passion for wildlife, photography and art.
Christina travels heavily, photographing exotic animals at sanctuaries, rehabilitation centers, educational programs and throughout Hollywood. Animal Magnetism at www.myanimalmagnetism.com is the Web’s destination for hundreds of photos of film and TV animal stars, including those featured in Ace Ventura Pet Detective, Evan Almighty, Operation Dumbo Drop, Gladiator, Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, Wild Hogs and many more.
A famous friend is Cheeta the chimp, from the 1930s and 40s “Tarzan” with Johnny Weismueller and Maureen O’Sullivan. At age 78, he’s in the Guiness Book of World Records as the oldest living primate. He is living out his Golden years in Palm Springs, CA at the C.H.E.E.T.A. Primate Sanctuary with caretaker Dan Westfall, who just just received his star on the Walk of Stars in Palm Springs, right beside Cheeta’s star. Animal Magnetism was invited to attend the celebration. You can view our tribute to Dan and photos from the day at www.christinabush.com/danwestfall . Charitiable Work/Educational Efforts
Christina started Animal Magnetism Photography in 2005, with the goal to raise awareness for wildlife with stunning animal images and interesting facts. “I want to help educate the youth of the world about wildlife, because the youth is their future and they need to be taught” says Christina. Animal Magnetism supports many animal causes, including The Paw Project, The International Anti-Fur Coalition and the Youth for Wildlife page ( www.youthforwildlife.com ) where facts and photos are interesting, interactive and fun. As part of her charitable work for Hugs and Hope for Sick Children, her beautiful animal images are sent as "Happy Mail" to brighten and cheer the days of children all over the United States who are battling critical illnesses.
She is most passionate about the plight of her favorite species, the majestic tigers. “I want to spend my life trying to help conserve them for the future of the world. I am disgusted with what goes on in the world with tigers, especially here in the United States and in China” says Christina. Animal Magnetism supports the banning of Canned/Trophy Hunting and Tiger Farms . She stands behind the efforts of Dr. Jenny Conrad and The Paw Project to make it illegal everywhere to declaw cats. In the future she plans to go to South Africa and photograph the animals in the environments in which they are meant to be - not behind cages in captivity, but in the wild. On her journey at the top of the list, she plans to visit Kevin Richardson and his wife Mandy at their Kingdom of the White Lion and also hopes to meet Jessica the Hippo.
Photography
Christina Bush is a California transplant, growing up in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina in the charming hometown of Waynesville. She moved west in 1992 with new husband Tom, who was stationed as a Marine at Camp Pendleton.
Animal Magnetism all started with a Christmas present. “My husband bought me a digital camera for Christmas and it became the greatest toy I’ve ever had” she says. “To me there’s nothing like being able to capture a look, a memory, and small fantastic moment in time...and capture it forever, to be enjoyed by many generations to come. What a beautiful thing photography is and it opened a whole new world of creativity for me...and with instant gratification! That’s the best part because I’m a very busy girl with little free time”.
"The gift of photography is an art form, not a hobby" Mary Gray
Armed and dangerous, Christina started first photographing the beautiful coast along Southern California; beaches, sunsets, flowers and landmarks. She also has been blessed with opportunities to travel and shoot in tropical destinations such as Hawaii, Venezuela, Margarita Island and the Mayan Riviera. Then a chance meeting with wildlife artist Chris Hoy started an animal obsession that continues to this day with Animal Magnetism. It’s been a great opportunity to meet many terrific people in the animal world including not only animal celebrities...but people ones as well, such as Carol Channing, Kay Starr, Dan Westfall, Carol Burnette and many others.
Today
Bush lives in Vista, CA with husband Tom and their two Rottweilers, Lord Baron and Lady Arabella. “I’ve always had a passion for animals of all sorts”. She says. “Throughout my life I’ve had dogs, cats, turtles, birds, snakes, guinea pigs, bunnies, scorpions, fish, and even a pet tarantula named Raven. Of all the animals in all the world her favorites are the Tigers and the Rottweilers...large, majestic, beautiful, loving, highly intelligent creatures that are so misunderstood.
